Pool League

May 29, 2008

Yesterday i played our 3rd game of the season as we played bottom of the table Bull Flanagans. It was a very easy match and they come short of players so before the game had even started we were 2-0 up.

Singles….

I went on first and to my surprise i had a very easy game and as soon as i got the two shots it was curtains. 1-0 in record time. Next up was the captain Lloyd who made no mistake in putting his 2-0 up. We continued to dominate and we won the next two to go 4-0 up. Then disater struck as we lost the fifth game of the night. 5-1 up because they only had five players so we had won after singles.

Doubles..

The “Skipper” decided to leave out some players and give others a game. We contiued winning ways and went 6-1 up. We were now playing for rack difference and when we won the next one we was very pleased. We lost the last one but still ended winning 7-2. Very good performance if i do say so myself.

After the match we all had a drink and a laugh and continued to discuss the good and bad shots throughout the eveing.

England defeat USA

May 29, 2008

England put in a “professional” performance as they overcame a poor USA side 2-0. Capello utilized his squad throughout the second half and is happy with the way his team played.

England’s goals..

Well a game with few chances and few shots made by both teams but the break through came in the 38th minute when a typical pin point ball from Beckham found it’s way to the captain John Terry who directed his header perfectly into the corner. England had to wait till the second half to double their advantage and it was Steven Gerrard who got it when he latched on to Gareth Barry’s ball and easily beat the USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan. The game frizzled out after that and England just cruised to a 2-0 victory.

The manager was clearly pleased with his side’s performance and applauded his player’s throughout the game.

The young Scot put in possibly his best ever performance on clay as he crushed the well fancied Jose Acasuso 6-4,6-0,6-4.  The British number one defeated the Argentine in just 1 hour and 38 minutes. The victory means he will now face Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in the third round.

How did Murray rate his performance..?

“I’m very pleased, it was a great performance. I was very aggressive and my shot selection was great.”

Andy Murray seems to be really confident and judging by this performance there is no reason not to be.

England vs USA preview

May 28, 2008

The biggest news in the run up to this friendly is that John Terry will be the skipper under Fabio Capello’s 3rd game in charge. Capello hope’s that the honour of leading his country will “pick him up” after missing the vital penalty against United.

Capello’s decisions..?

He has decided to make Wayne Rooney his main man and will give him a partner in this game.  His other decisios lie in whether to play Gerrard and Lampard together with Hargreaves and Barry also pushing for a start. He may play Brown at right back with Rio Ferdinand and John Terry the centre back pairing.

USA team..

Bob Bradley’s team will be a difficult task for England as USA  are undefeated in 2008. Bradley has eight players who play football in the English league. It could be a very special night for Landon Donovan who looks set to make his 100th appearance for USA at just 26 years old.

This should be a good game for England as they warm up for the World Cup Qualifiers.
