The transfer saga surrounding Ronaldo rolls on
June 2, 2008
Cristiano Ronaldo has told newspapers that he will decide in 2 or 3 days on his future. The portuguese star is pondering whether to stay at Manchester United or make his “dream” move to Real Madrid.
This has set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford as this statement comes as a complete surprise to United. They except Ronaldo to be at United next season but still fear Ronaldo could decide on Madrid. In recent days Ronaldos uncle has said that his nephew has decided to move to Madrid and just yesterday Portugal’s manager, Phil Scolari, urged Cristiano to make the move to Spain.
Even if Ronaldo decides to go Sir Alex ferguson has said that the owners wouldn’t let him and are prepared to sit him the stands.
Real Madrid have been gradually backing out of the move for Ronaldo after fears they could wreck a “good” relationship with Man Utd.
What happens in the next few days could be both big for United and Madrid and everyone who has links with the clubs will have their ears open to see what Ronaldo decides.
Rafa’s domination on clay continues
June 2, 2008
Rafael Nadal secured his 25th consecutive win at Roland Garros with a blistering display to defeat fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco. The World number 2 conceded just 3 games in winning 6-1,6-0,6-2.
How the match went..
Nadal was always in control of the match and Verdasco who defeated World number 15 Mikhail Youzhny in the 3rd round had no answers to Nadal’s hard hitting ground strokes. During the match things got worse for Verdasco has he suffered an injury which didn’t help his cause as he looked for an unlikely comeback. He continued and began to shake off his injury but by then the match had gone and Rafa was in the Quarters.
This win means Nadal is still on course to win his fourth consecutive French Open and equal Bjorn Borg’s record.
England defeat Trinidad & Tobago
June 2, 2008
Fabio Capello’s England defeated a very poor Trinidad & Tobago team by a comfortable 3-0. A much changed England team lead out by David Beckham breezed through the game and in fairness could have won by a lot more goals. Jermain Defoe got 2 goals while Steven Gerrard got the other.
How did Capello rate the performance..?
“We played a good game and all the players showed good concentration.” he went on “I’m pleased with the four games I’ve been in charge. In every one, we’ve gone forwards step by step and each match has been very important.”
Jermain Defoe who scored 2 goals said after the game..?
“I am delighted to have got two goals. To play for your country and score is the best feeling in the world.
England performed well in Trinidad and hopefully they got the approval to stage the 2018 world cup.
