Is Woods the best ever?

June 11, 2008

tiger-woods1 Is Woods the best ever?It is one of the most intriguing questions. Is Tiger the best?

His performances since he has been professional have been amazing, he has won over 60 tournaments and has 13 majors to his name. Every time he plays there are record crowds and they are all there to see him.

The competition he faces…

Golf is very competitive, any number of players can win, Adam Scott, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Stewart Cink. Not forgetting the Europeans: Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood and Paul Casey. I mean there is a new winner every tournament.

Every one of these players can beat Tiger Woods, just not on a regular basis. That’s why he may struggle to get the record off Jack Nicklaus. I suppose we will only now if he is greater when he retires. I’m sure that by the time he has finished he WILL have the record of most majors and most tournament wins! It just won’t be as easy as people think.

Lakers fight back

June 11, 2008

boston-celtics Lakers fight backLA Lakers pulled back into the series with an 87-81 win over Boston Celtics. Kobe Bryant scored 36 points and inspired his team to victory.

Boston stars have night off…

Paul Pierce who had inspired his team in the first two matches had a very poor game and looked exhausted in the final stages. He only managed 6 points while Boston’s other star Kevin Garnett only managed 13 points.

LA rely on Bryant…

The Lakers were poor again and star players Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom only managed 13 points between them. Luckily enough for the Lakers Bryant scored 36 points and won the game on his own.

The Lakers know they will have to improve but at least they are still in the best of seven series. With Bryan back in form LA will hope some of their other players step up and help out Kobe.

Boston are still in control of the tie but worryingly big players began to look tired and with Bryant in form they have to be at the top of their game.

Chelsea’s chase for a manager hots up

June 11, 2008

phil-scolari Chelseas chase for a manager hots upBig Phil Scolari has become the hot favourite to take over Chelsea after declaring he is ready to move away from Portuguese football.

Scolari said…

‘For the atmosphere, for the love of Portugal, it will be difficult to leave, but I’m a professional and I have lived everywhere in the world. I am ready to live in a different country. ‘I have a contract with the Portuguese Federation and I will fulfill that. Afterwards, we will see what happens.’

Chelsea know that if they want Scolari then they will have to wait till after Euro 2008 meaning possible transfer targets could be gone by the time he gets there. It is a big risk but would it be worth it? Phil has some great attributes and as a manger there isn’t better around. He has made Portugal one of the best European teams in the world and is trying to lead them to Euro glory now.

If Scolari does go he will be expected to win the League and the Champions League probably an FA Cup and maybe even a League Cup. I wonder if he would still keep his job after that?

Hatton snubs Oscar

June 11, 2008

ricky-hatton1 Hatton snubs OscarThe Hitman Ricky Hatton has told Oscar De La Hoya he must wait 6 months before he can step in the ring with him. Hatton turned down a fight proposal from Oscar for the 20th of September.

Ricky said…

“I am not dismissing the idea of fighting Oscar but the date I was offered in September was far too soon. I fought 12 hard rounds just a fortnight ago against Juan Lazcano and to make it for September I would have to be back in the gym in another two weeks time. It’s not on.”

Oscar offered the proposal because Floyd Mayweather retired meaning De La Hoya would not be able to fight him.

Ricky’s next fight is scheduled to be against Malignaggi in New York.

Hatton’s manager said…

“He wants to fight Malignaggi at New York’s Madison Square Garden to fulfil a dream of topping the bill there but offers have come in from the big casinos in Las Vegas and two cities in Canada as well.”

Many pundits predict there will only be two more fights for Ricky Hatton before he calls it a day.

Zlatan stunner kills Greece

June 11, 2008

sweden-vs-greece Zlatan stunner kills GreeceZlatan Ibrahimovic scored one of the goals of the tournament in what was probably one of the worst games of the tournament. Sweden won 2-0 against Greece who did not show any signs of defending the title they won four years ago.

The goals…

It was a poor game and it was going to take something special to break the deadlock. Zlatan provided that moment of brilliance. He played a one two with Henrik Larsson and unleashed a ferocious volley which shot straight into the goal. You always felt that who ever scored the first goal would win the match. It did happen but after Hansson scrambled home the second thanks to a mix up in the Greek defence. The game itself was poor but I’m sure Sweden don’t care, they got the three point and that’s all that matters.

Sweden’s coach said…

“It’s fantastic to win the first match. And we deserved our win.”

Greece’s coach defended his tactics saying…

“If we had applied a different tactic then we would have conceded five goals by half-time. It doesn’t matter where you field the players. They should be creative in whatever position they played in. Franz Beckenbauer was a sweeper and he was very creative.”

Greece were poor and the chance of them winning the tournament is about as slim as it ever could be.

Eto’o snubs Spurs

June 11, 2008

sameul-etoo Etoo snubs SpursBarcelona’s Samuel Eto’o has turned a big money move to North London team Tottenham Hotspur.

What did he say about Spurs…

“Tottenham and I hope the English excuse me for saying this, is a club in the middle of the table and I need more.”

He then spoke about other possibilities…

“I have a contract with Barcelona until 2010 and I feel well here. But I cannot exclude the option of Inter.”

The news about Inter will alert Chelsea who are also keen on signing the Cameroonian ace. The Blues have been linked with a £22m offer but without no manager they have to be wary in case the knew manager doesn’t like them.
