Hatton snubs Oscar

June 11, 2008

ricky-hatton1 Hatton snubs OscarThe Hitman Ricky Hatton has told Oscar De La Hoya he must wait 6 months before he can step in the ring with him. Hatton turned down a fight proposal from Oscar for the 20th of September.

Ricky said…

“I am not dismissing the idea of fighting Oscar but the date I was offered in September was far too soon. I fought 12 hard rounds just a fortnight ago against Juan Lazcano and to make it for September I would have to be back in the gym in another two weeks time. It’s not on.”

Oscar offered the proposal because Floyd Mayweather retired meaning De La Hoya would not be able to fight him.

Ricky’s next fight is scheduled to be against Malignaggi in New York.

Hatton’s manager said…

“He wants to fight Malignaggi at New York’s Madison Square Garden to fulfil a dream of topping the bill there but offers have come in from the big casinos in Las Vegas and two cities in Canada as well.”

Many pundits predict there will only be two more fights for Ricky Hatton before he calls it a day.

Floyd Mayweather retires

June 7, 2008

Floyd Mayweather“The Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather has announced his retirement because he has no desire to return to the ring and fight. His last fight was against Ricky Hatton which he won by knockout and he told fans after that match that he would consider retiring.  At only 31 the American had many more fights in him but having already achieved so much in his career he has called it a day.

Mayweather said…

“I have decided to permanently retire from boxing.  This decision was not an easy one for me to make because boxing is all I have done since I was a child. I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead. But there comes a time when money doesn’t matter. I just can’t do it anymore.

This is not good news for the likes of Oscar De La Hoya who had hoped to have a rematch with Floyd as did Ricky Hatton, it won’t happen now but in fairness to Mayweather he had already proved he is number one and the best.

Ricky Hatton wins on home coming

May 25, 2008

ricky-hatton Ricky Hatton wins on home comingAll the build in the world wouldnt have been big enough for the manchester lad. A packed stadium in his home town watched as the Hitman tried to restore some pride after getting floored off Mayweather.

How did Ricky react early on..?

He started a little nervous as you would except but Juan Lazcano soon knew what the Hitman was about after getting caught late on in the first round. Ricky was on a mission and really targeted the ribs of Lazcano. He couldnt get the knock-out but he certainly gained total control early on in the fight.

What Happened late on in the fight..?

Ricky went down….no worries it was just a slip and he continued to dominate the fight. He continued to hit Juan but give credit to the opponent he just wouldnt go down. Come the end of the fight he could hardly stand but he wouldnt let Ricky knock him out. He didnt really look for the win and in the end it was very easy for Ricky to just catch him with body shots. The scorecards read 120-110,118-110,120-108. To the delight of the crowd, Ricky Hatton had won and started another winning streak.

Whats next for Ricky..?

Well after this convincing win his next opponent is likely to be Paulie Malignaggi who holds the belt. After that a possible rematch is on the cards as Hatton has challenged Floyd Mayweather to fight him on his “own turf”. Mayweather will probably fight as well because he loves the limelight and if he beats Ricky in Manchester it would certainly give him even more popularity and a nice pay-day would be in store as well.

For now lets just enjoy the victory and whatever lies ahead for Ricky.. it is going to be enjoyable.
