james-wade Wade Wins UK OpenJames Wade claimed his third major title after defeating Gary Mawson 11-7 in the final of the UK Open. Wade collected £35,000 for winning the competition.

Afterwards he said…

“I’m not a big show off. I’m a quiet sort of guy and didn’t want a big fuss after winning. Seriously though, it’s a massive win for me, I’m a young bloke and I want to make myself secure while I’m winning.

Mawson was gracious in defeat and afterwards he talked about his nickname Rafael Benitez…

“Thanks to my beard the crowd nicknamed me Rafael Benitez throughout the tournament and that support really spurred me on. “Rafa is also very successful in cup matches, perhaps that was my lucky omen. ”I’m disappointed to have gone so far and lost though.”

Mawson had a great tournament, he defeated Barney in the semis after the Dutchman had defeated Taylor so I’m sure it isn’t the last we will se of “Rafael Benitez”.

Queen of darts aims to become King

June 5, 2008

darts-female Queen of darts aims to become KingRussian female darts sensation Anastasia Dobromyslova has qualified for “the FA Cup of Darts” otherwise known as PDC UK Open. She has very high aspirations as she aims to become the first woman to win the World Championship.

Ana’s chances…

Ana may not be able to average as high as the men but at the tender age of 23, and with Phil Taylor mentoring her she has a very good chance.  She is already the number one in Womans darts and wants to rule the world of Darts.

She said…

”Whoever I play against is just a rival - it doesn’t matter whether male or female. But obviously to achieve my goals I have to beat all the men.  My dream is to compete in the Ladbrokes World Championship at the Alexandra Palace - and win.”

Ana faces Scot Robert Thornton, it will also be his debut at PDC UK Open. He has promised he won’t take Ana easy.  He said…

“It’s going to be a baptism of fire for me playing Ana. She’s a class act and it’s a match which everyone can’t wait to see.”

Whatever happens at the Uk Open, maybe just maybe Darts is coming into a new era of “Female” top players.
