Scolari named as Chelsea manager

June 12, 2008

phil-scolari1 Scolari named as Chelsea managerChelsea have finally appointed a new manager, by the name of Phil Scolari. The race had been hotting up with a number of candidates in the running, but Chelsea decided that Scolari was the man they wanted.

A club statement said…

“Felipe has great qualities. He is one of the world’s top coaches with a record of success at country and club level. He gets the best out of a talented squad of players and his ambitions and expectations match ours. He was the outstanding choice.”

Ricardo Carvalho looks set to be offered a new contract worth £90,000 a week to keep him out of Inter’s way. It also looks like Scolari’s first signing will be Barcelona playmaker Deco, who has had a good start to the Euros.

Scolari said…

“What happened at Barcelona last season was not Deco’s fault. He is an individual who dares. He’s ready to take risks and do things differently.”

“Big” Phil will have £100m to spend and has a contract worth £5m a year.

Chelsea’s chase for a manager hots up

June 11, 2008

phil-scolari Chelseas chase for a manager hots upBig Phil Scolari has become the hot favourite to take over Chelsea after declaring he is ready to move away from Portuguese football.

Scolari said…

‘For the atmosphere, for the love of Portugal, it will be difficult to leave, but I’m a professional and I have lived everywhere in the world. I am ready to live in a different country. ‘I have a contract with the Portuguese Federation and I will fulfill that. Afterwards, we will see what happens.’

Chelsea know that if they want Scolari then they will have to wait till after Euro 2008 meaning possible transfer targets could be gone by the time he gets there. It is a big risk but would it be worth it? Phil has some great attributes and as a manger there isn’t better around. He has made Portugal one of the best European teams in the world and is trying to lead them to Euro glory now.

If Scolari does go he will be expected to win the League and the Champions League probably an FA Cup and maybe even a League Cup. I wonder if he would still keep his job after that?

The transfer saga surrounding Ronaldo rolls on

June 2, 2008

Ronaldo transfer sagaCristiano Ronaldo has told newspapers that he will decide in 2 or 3 days on his future. The portuguese star is pondering whether to stay at Manchester United or make his “dream” move to Real Madrid.

This has set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford as this statement comes as a complete surprise to United. They except Ronaldo to be at United next season but still fear Ronaldo could decide on Madrid. In recent days Ronaldos uncle has said that his nephew has decided to move to Madrid and just yesterday Portugal’s manager, Phil Scolari, urged Cristiano to make the move to Spain.

Even if Ronaldo decides to go Sir Alex ferguson has said that the owners wouldn’t let him and are prepared to sit him the stands.

Real Madrid have been gradually backing out of the move for Ronaldo after fears they could wreck a “good” relationship with Man Utd.

What happens in the next few days could be both big for United and Madrid and everyone who has links with the clubs will have their ears open to see what Ronaldo decides.
