Tiger Woods wins US Open

tiger-woods4 Tiger Woods wins US OpenTiger Woods won one of the most dramatic US Open events to date. After 18 gruelling holes the two could not be separated and an extra hole was needed.

The play-off…

Both players had poor starts with a bogey at the first from Tiger Woods and a horrible double bogey at the first from Rocco Mediate. They both parred the second and at the third, we were all shocked. Rocco took the lead thanks to a birdie and a bogey from Woods. It did not last long and two holes they were level after a bogey.  Then Tiger took total control and by the time they got to the 10th he was 3 up. A hat trick of birdies on the back nine clawed Rocco in front and the biggest upset in Golf was on the cards. He held on until the 18th. Tiger hit a monstrous drive where as Rocco was in the bunker. Rocco played up the fairway, Woods though was thinking about eagle and he went for the green. He was a long way off the pin but at least he was on the dance floor. Rocco chipped to about 25ft and a putt for birdie. So Tiger was thinking about eagle, it didn’t come and Rocco had the chance to win the US Open. Mediate pulled his putt and his chance had gone. A tap in from Tiger gave him a birdie and took the two level on scores.

Sudden Death…

Tiger cracked one down the middle of the fairway. It was the complete opposite from Rocco as he drove into a bunker. Rocco went first and hooked his bunker shot, he had a horrible chip now. Woods played a perfect 9 iron 20ft from the pin leaving Rocco needing to get up and down. He chipped onto the green but a tricky putt was awaiting.

So if Tiger holes his putt he would win the US Open. He left it short and Rocco still had a chance. He missed and Tiger Woods was the champion.

Afterwards Tiger said…

“It was a great battle and a great friendship. Rocco put so much pressure on me and it was an unbelievably gutsy performance he turned in. The play-off was so full of ebbs and flows. I felt I was in charge, then he was, and then I got it back. But even when I was three shots clear, you know it can disappear so quickly on a course this difficult. And for him to make three birdies in a row was really just incredible. I was playing a lot of military golf - left, then right. But I felt if I could get the ball on the greens I could still get it done.”

Simon Says…

Tiger Woods IS the best ever player to play the game. He was playing some of the worst golf of his life and still managed to win. He really is an unbelievable specimen.
